What Is Miami-Dade NOA Approval for Impact Windows?

If you're shopping for impact windows in Miami-Dade, Broward, or coastal Palm Beach County, you'll see two terms repeated: Florida Product Approval and Miami-Dade NOA. Here's what each means.

Florida Product Approval

This is the statewide approval system administered by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Every impact window or door legally installed anywhere in Florida must hold a current Florida Product Approval number.

Miami-Dade NOA

The Notice of Acceptance (NOA) is an additional, stricter approval issued by Miami-Dade County. Products must pass large-missile impact testing (a 9-pound 2x4 fired at 50 ft/sec) and cyclic wind pressure cycles that simulate sustained hurricane forces.

HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone)

The High-Velocity Hurricane Zone is Miami-Dade and Broward counties, in full. No part of Palm Beach, Martin or St. Lucie County is inside it. Inside the HVHZ, every impact product must hold a Miami-Dade NOA — Florida Product Approval alone is not enough. Outside it, Florida Product Approval governs, which widens the range of qualifying products without lowering the design pressure your openings must hold.
